Abstract
Discusses the refurbishment of a lock keeper’s cottage on the Regent’s Canal by Sanchez Benton transforming essential structural reinforcements into a cohesive architectural solution. To address foundation instability, a stepped concrete column and beams were introduced to support the leaning façade, with the house reconfigured around this structure. The design embraces a one-room-deep layout, with storage integrated into the façade and bespoke doors that open fully to create a loggia-like connection to the canal. Externally, reclaimed London stock brick and coarse lime mortar preserve the conservation area's character, while finely detailed timber-framed windows meet heritage requirements while maintaining durability.
